Keynote Speakers
Major Brendan Nottle oversees the operation of The Salvation Army in the City of Melbourne and has been an officer with The Salvation Army for over 26 years.
He is the club Chaplain for the Collingwood Football Club, and has been providing support to the club in a variety of aspects for 16 years. In 2013 Brendan was awarded Melbournian of the year as well as anointed one of the monarchs of Moomba, Melbourne’s annual community festival.
Brendan is a member of the Premier’s Ice Action Taskforce and the Housing Minister’s Rough Sleeping Round table and in 2017 he walked to Canberra to highlight the issue of homelessness, and to call on Federal Politicians to develop a multi-partisan national plan to address Australia’s homelessness crisis.
Most recently he was a nominee for the 2020 Victorian Australian of the year. He enjoys spending time with his family, reading and walking.

Ann Mellow, associate director of the National Association of Episcopal Schools (NAES), began her tenure on July 1, 2008 as assistant director for program development. She was named to her current position in January 2010. Immediately prior to her arrival at NAES, Ms. Mellow was interim director of the New York Interschool Association, New York City. From 1995 to 2007, she was head of school at St. Luke’s School, New York City, the Episcopal elementary school of the Church of St. Luke in the Fields.
Ms. Mellow began her education career as a history teacher at Garrison Forest School, Garrison, Maryland. She then went on to teach at Berkeley Institute and Poly Prep Country Day School, both in Brooklyn, New York. In 1990 she became head of the middle school at the Chapin School, New York City. In 1992, she returned to Poly Prep Country Day School as the head of the middle school.
Ms. Mellow is currently a member of the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) professional development committee. She is a past NYSAIS trustee, a former codirector of the NYSAIS Experienced Teachers Institute, and a past member of the organization’s diversity committee. She has also chaired a number of accreditation committees for NYSAIS, and facilitated workshops for new heads of school, departmental heads, and beginning teachers on behalf of the organization. She is a past president of the New York Guild of Independent Schools, New York City.
A trustee of Saint David’s School, New York City, Ms. Mellow is a former trustee of the Caedmon School, New York City, and iMedia Source.
Ms. Mellow was educated at Middlebury College, Middlebury Vermont, where she earned a bachelor of arts degree in history in 1977. She later earned a master’s degree in education from Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Dr Katherine Thompson has worked as an academic and clinician in youth mental health for more than 15 years. Her research focuses have been youth mental health, psychosis and borderline personality disorder. She currently works in Private Practice as a Clinical Social Worker, specialising in mental health treatment in 12-25 year olds, and offering training, assessments, debriefing and counselling for missionary staff from a number of organisations.
She has published two books, Christ Centred Mindfulness: Connection to Self and God, and Christ Centered Mindfulness: Activities for Young People. These books were written to address the lack of information about popular mindfulness and how this fits with Christian faith. The second book was designed as a practical resource book for secondary teachers and youth leaders.
