Site tour 4 - Cannon Hill Anglican & Redlands College

School: Cannon Hill Anglican College
Project:  D Block
Architect: Reddog Architects in association with Bluel-ine Architecture
Photographer: Christopher Frederick Jones

The Cannon Hill Anglican College (CHAC) D Block features six teaching spaces, breakout areas, a deck, locker bays, amenities, a kitchen, and a food and beverage precinct. Aligned with CHAC’s masterplan, it bridges CHAC’s senior and middle schools and offers flexibility for events and learning. The design preserves mature trees, enhances bushland aesthetics with a white brick palette, and incorporates muted interior colours as wayfinding aids. Sustainability features include cross ventilation, shaded windows, and minimal-maintenance materials. Outdoor learning undercrofts and flexible spaces optimise functionality. The project is award-winning, including a National Commenda-tion for Architecture.

School: Redlands College
Project:  College Heart
Architect:  Bickerton Masters Architecture
Photographer: Wilson Architects

The Redlands ‘College Heart’ is a project located in an urban setting being the ‘town square’ and includes both educational (P-12) as well as communal facilities. The external spaces are designed to directly connect to the College public spaces to bring together a memorable outdoor ‘room’ where community activities can take place. Wilson Architects identified a need for the College ‘heart' and was innovative in imagining how it could be developed on the site. By focusing on need and intent rather than limitations, it struck a balance between new and old by creating new space and attaching an opening out an existing building. The design embraced and recycled the original Library building, cutting it open and reconfiguring it in a significant way

“The stereotype of what school should be is slowly changing. The College Heart brings us together not just to learn but to be a community, to grow and to feel a part of something. And I think that is the heart of what this new building means to us.” - Redlands College Student.
