More to say: Our Journey Towards Becoming a Communication Accessible School, Justin Esler, Principal; Anthony Rosenthal, Leading Teacher; Bronte Graham, Speech Pathologist; and, Erin Naylor, Occupational Therapist, Diamond Valley SDS

We will discuss Diamond Valley’s journey across 2018-2019 in working towards becoming a communication accessible school, striving towards helping our students communicate “whatever they want, whenever they want, to whoever they want” (Gayle Porter).

In 2018 Diamond Valley conducted a communication audit where it was discovered that we could better support our student’s voices and agency. Following this our school has embarked on a number of projects to improve our communication culture. During our workshop we will share the journey of our ‘More to Say’ campaign highlighting the importance of student voice and agency to our school and wider community.  We will discuss the impact this campaign has had on our ability to provide communication opportunities for our students and the resulting benefits within the classroom and beyond.
