Welcome from the Conference Chair

With the 2019 ASA Conference themed ‘Awe and Wonder’, what better place to express awe for the world around us, to celebrate children’s curiosity, imagination and wonder and to marvel in the beauty of God’s creation than in the beautiful harbour side city of Hobart? With the majestic Mt Wellington as the backdrop and overlooking the stunning River Derwent and Constitution Dock, I invite you to join us and immerse yourself in not only the stimulating conference environment, but to enjoy the many wonders of our unique historical and cultural city.

We have gathered a group of inspiring speakers who will lead us over two days of stimulating discussion, learning and reflection. Delegates will explore the theme of Awe and Wonder through the rich stories and understandings shared by leading national and international speakers together with the sharing of the immense collective knowledge and experience within the communion of Anglican educators and leaders from across the country. We will be welcomed by the Governor of Tasmania at a reception in Government House and worship in the beautiful, St David’s Cathedral. Delegates will also have the opportunity to make the most of their time in the second oldest city in Australia with time set aside to visit the elegant heritage sandstone buildings of Salamanca Place where Australia’s best outdoor market will feature craft, food, entertainment and galleries, only a short walk from the waterfront conference venue.

A special feature of this year’s conference is the launch of the inaugural ASA Student Celebration. This is a wonderful opportunity for students from all Anglican schools to produce a video celebrating service to their school, local or wider community. One video from each State will be featured at the Conference to demonstrate the students’ approach and commitment to their project.

Please join us in Hobart for the 2019 ASA conference. Ignite your senses, be stimulated by the conversation, presentations and reflections, let us together marvel in God’s creation, and celebrate the wonder and enthusiasm that children bring us in our work in Anglican Schools across this country.

On behalf of the Conference Committee, I look forward to welcoming you to Hobart to be part of ‘Awe and Wonder’.
