The Education Revolution and the age of the 'never-graduate' Student
ABSTRACT:
It’s a crowded curriculum. New and emerging technologies are moving at an exponential pace. Industry can’t keep up.
What mechanisms can schools and teachers use to keep up with the opportunities that these new technologies bring, without unnecessary risk nor being caught up in the hype? Can parents and the wider school community play a role? With flexible learning and engagement emerging from our universities, RTOs, and non-accredited providers there are many official and unofficial ways to absorb new skills and training. Universities never want us to graduate; dipping our toes back in when we want up to date information.
No technology is an island and technology is not here for technology’s sake. The Australian Digital Technologies Curriculum allows us to engage the ‘why’ behind the application, and ask the right questions: What are the problems we are trying to solve and how can technology assist us? Is a digital solution even the correct one?
Drones are a fantastic way to open up pathways to aviation and aerospace, exciting careers for the students of today. But, do you know the rules? Are you insured? What are the dangers? And how can we empower teachers and increase their confidence to try new things?
