Flipping the mathematics classroom - intended and unintended outcomes
Steve Crapnell,All Hallows

2018 saw a change to my pedagogical practice when teaching Mathematics.  Essentially, the change was motivated to investigate how to enhance student understanding of mathematical concepts as well as developing strategies that supported the wellbeing of the student.  This was a challenge for a teacher of 32 years’ experience and I chose a flipped mastery approach for the framework as I felt that this model would best support my goals. Upon reflection, the wellbeing aspects of the pedagogical change were the greatest unintended outcome of the change and, I believe, were highly influential in the improved academic performances of students’.  This presentation will discuss the why, the how, the challenges and the outcomes of this change in practice
