Going deeper with Character Strengths - Exploring the Continuum through Drama and Literacy
Leanne Sercombe, Teacher/ MA Ed Leadership, & Frank Donnoli, Drama Teacher, Discovery College
This workshop will be an opportunity for participants to deepen their understanding of strengths, looking specifically at the overuse and underuse of strengths through Literacy and Drama. Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on how students recognise strengths in themselves and others, and become aware of the signs and triggers of overuse/underuse of strengths. This workshop will explore a case study of how this was introduced at Discovery College, incorporating the See, Hear Feel model from Professor Lea Waters’ Visible Wellbeing framework. Interactive elements will be incorporated including practical strength spotting examples, as well as participants gaining an understanding of how Drama techniques can be used effectively to support students understanding, and use of strengths. Participants will also explore how the use of Drama and Picture Books enables students to develop a deeper understanding of themselves through imaginative play and stories. The concepts and strategies shared are transferable across all ages.
